OUR

Welcome to St Luke's
Catholic Parish Marsden Park

St Luke’s, located in Marsden Park, Western Sydney, is proud to be Australia’s newest Catholic Parish within the Diocese of Parramatta.

The community was formed on January 1, 2018, when Deacon Tony Hoban was appointed as Pastoral Director. With the support of his wife, Annette, and a dedicated Advisory Group, they began shaping a community focused on faith, discipleship, and partnership with St Luke’s Catholic College.

In 2025, Fr Gayan Thamel was appointed as the first parish priest, marking a significant milestone in the life of the community. Under his leadership, St Luke’s continues to grow as a welcoming and supportive Parish community.

Masses and events are held at St Luke’s Catholic College, Frontier Avenue, Marsden Park. We invite everyone seeking to grow in faith and belong to a welcoming community to join us.

We acknowledge that the Darug people were the original custodians of the land on which we operate. We pay our respects to elders past and present, and acknowledge the Aboriginal people for their custodianship of this land.

Submit your own prayer intention or prayer of thanks

“The prayer of a righteous man (person) has great power in its effects.”
James 5:16 RSV.

Our own prayers to God for our needs can be supported and supplemented by the prayers of others.

In our St Luke’s Catholic Faith community we have people (youth and other prayerful groups) willing to support you in prayer.

Prayer intentions and prayers of thanks submitted here will be sent to a one or more of these prayer groups with our faith community.

Our Parish Prayer

O God You show us in St Luke, our patron,
a person of faith
who desired all people to come to know and love you
in the community of your Church.
Teach us to embrace what St Luke pioneered:
discipleship of Jesus Christ.
Trusting in your love and grace
and nourished by Word and Sacrament
may we grow in our relationship with you
and together make our Catholic Faith Community
a community of communities,
a sanctuary where the thirsty come to drink
in the midst of their journey,
and a centre of constant missionary outreach.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

St Luke, pray for us.
St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, pray for us.
Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.

All saints and Martyrs, pray for us.

Diocesan News

Bishop Vincent’s Homily for the 7th Sunday in Ordinary Time 2025

Disarming violence with nonviolence and treating one's opponent with benevolence is at the core of Jesus’ teaching and therefore the core of Christian discipleship. (Read More)

Fr Frank Brennan’s Homily: Homily for the 7th Sunday in Ordinary Time 2025

Despite all the shortcomings in the Church, and there are many, I am blessed to have been a member of the Society of Jesus these past 50 years, chalking up 40 years as a priest later in the year. (Read More)

Jesus and The Poor

While that may be granted, what may not be granted is that our (seemingly) necessary social and political pragmatism in dealing with “the widow, the orphan, and the immigrant” may cloak itself with Jesus and the Bible. It may not. This is antithetical to Jesus. Whether or not this upsets our security and comfort, God is always on the underside of history, on the side of the poor. (Read More)
